Supporting Karachi Community Based Schools

ISACA CommunITy Day

To serve the growing need for formal education in the less affording / struggling areas where people are mainly daily wagers engaged in menial labor, some charitable organizations have set up small schools for the children who otherwise would be deprived of formal education. The schools are managed/supported by volunteers who ensure continuity of service by pitching in and ensuring that these Community Based Schools (CBS) keep running

With schools now re-opening in Karachi after the long lockdown with a mix of on-line and limited in-person classes, these CBS are struggling as neither the teachers, nor the children and their parents, are affording or comfortable with using technology for education and digital literacy, and are not trained in effective use of digital media or cybersecurity practices for Teachers and Students.

Cybersecurity Awareness Session for School Teachers

For the ISACA CommunITy Day, ISACA Karachi Chapter has committed to support these schools, as requested by them, by conducting a 1.5+ hour online session on October 3, 2020 for the CBS teachers of the Secondary Sections (80 out of 130 CBS teachers) to brief them on:

(a) Dealing with the New Normal in Post Covid19 life and work
(b) Digital Literacy, and effective use of Digital Media
(c) What are the Cyber Threats and Privacy issues for teachers and children
(d) How to safely use Internet, WhatsApp and Zoom etc.

Printable copies of the guidelines (Dos & Don’ts) will be provided to the CBS to be shared with the students and their parents, and relevant ISACA mementoes will be given for the participating teachers. This is expected to be the launch of a series of supportive sessions and workshops for the CBS who have various needs.
